Here are a couple of excerpts from two of my books. The first is from Race of Her Life, a story about racecar driver Trace Bradshaw, her new chief engineer Mac Reynolds and a stalker fan out to end Tracey’s career.

RACE OF HER LIFE
Excerpt

Tracey strode down the hotel hallway with Mac at her heels. She turned abruptly and he stopped short to avoid running into her. “I repeat. No. Way. In. Hell. Will I drop out of the race. I don’t want to hear one more word about it and if you, or Ed, mention it again… I’m going to… to…” What? What could she do? Frustration burned through her hot and deep. She threw her hands in the air and let out a guttural roar, then continued toward her room.

“Jesus, Tracey, just consider it,” Mac persisted. “Someone tried to kill you four years ago and, probably, that same person succeeded in killing Joe. Those pills were meant for you. How can you stay in the race when your life could be on the line? Again.”

Why was he calling her Tracey? No one called her that. She was Trace. Just Trace. Sure she thought of herself as Tracey but it seemed strange coming from Mac. It seemed… intimate. She mentally groaned at that stupid thought.

“That is exactly the reason why I have to continue, Mac. If I quit now, this psycho goes free and we never find out who killed Joe. Obviously whoever it is doesn’t want me to drive in this specific race. Now, I don’t know why, but I’m not going to give him the satisfaction of winning.” Tracey reached her room and turned around. “I’m going to start this race and you better believe I’m going to finish it.” She poked a finger against his hard chest. “And that’s not all. I’m going to win it!”

Mac stared at her with those smoky eyes that seemed to vanquish thought from her head. “And what happens if you die trying, Tracey?” His low voice, soft and serious, surprised her. “Then what’s it worth?”

This second excerpt is from a book called Undercovers, where an idealistic rookie cop gets assigned to an overprotective detective after a high profile incident leaves her without a partner.

UNDERCOVERS
Excerpt

Chase didn’t attempt to touch her, just stood in front of her, watching, daring. His piercing green gaze nearly had her hypnotized and he smelled so good she wanted to close her eyes and just breathe him in.

Jenna pulled his head down a fraction and turned her head. First to one side, then slowly to the next, taunting him mercilessly with her lips. Almost touching but not quite.

“Are you gonna kiss me or tease me?” No one watching in the crowd around them could’ve heard his whispered words. The sound of that low voice reminded her of their night together and made her blood run hotter.

“Both.” Jenna pivoted and turned him against the wall. Her lips remained a fraction from his as they gazed at each other in a stare down. She’d kissed him before, but this was different. This was a show. He wasn’t going to kiss her because he really wanted to. He was setting her up, making her real. Her heart shouldn’t have been pounding out of control. Her palms shouldn’t have been sweating.
